A variable speed pool pump runs at lower speeds for longer, which moves the same water for a fraction of the electricity of a single speed pump. Limitless Pools replaces pumps across Kingston, Napanee and Quinte, and installs the Madimack InverFLOW PLUS with 5 years of parts and on-site labour.
How much can a variable speed pump save?
Savings come from physics: halving pump speed cuts power use to roughly an eighth, so running longer at low speed uses far less energy. Most single speed pool pumps near Kingston can be replaced with a variable speed pump that uses about a quarter to a third of the electricity. Use the estimator below with your own numbers.
Variable speed pump savings estimator
Assumes the variable speed pump moves the same water at lower speed and uses about 30% of the energy, a conservative figure. Use the all-in rate from your bill (energy plus delivery, divided by kWh).
Single speed vs variable speed
| Single speed | Variable speed | |
|---|---|---|
| Energy use | Full power whenever it runs | Low speed most of the day |
| Noise | Loud | Quiet at low speed |
| Filtration | Short, fast bursts | Slow and steady, filters finer |
| Upfront cost | Lower | Higher |
| Typical warranty | 1 to 2 years | Madimack InverFLOW PLUS: 5 years parts and labour |
Madimack InverFLOW PLUS
The InverFLOW PLUS is the pump we install most. Madimack covers it for 5 years on parts and on-site labour when it is registered within 30 days of installation, which we do for you. See the Madimack InverFLOW PLUS product page for specifications, and our Madimack dealer page for the full warranty table.
Repair or replace your pump?
A leaking seal or noisy bearings on a newer pump is worth repairing. A single speed pump over about 8 years old that needs a motor is usually better replaced with a variable speed pump, because the energy savings pay back part of the cost. We quote both on a pool equipment service call.
Variable speed pump questions
How much does a variable speed pool pump save?
It depends on your current pump, run hours and electricity rate. Replacing a 1.5 HP single speed pump running 10 hours a day often saves a few hundred dollars a season. Try the estimator on this page with your own numbers.
How long should a variable speed pump run each day?
Most residential pools run 10 to 16 hours a day at low speed, with a short higher-speed period for skimming or a heater. We program the schedule when we install it.
Will a variable speed pump work with my heater or salt system?
Yes. Heaters and salt cells need a minimum flow, so we set a speed that meets it whenever they are on.
What warranty comes with the Madimack InverFLOW PLUS?
Madimack lists 5 years on parts and 5 years on on-site labour for the InverFLOW PLUS, provided the pump is registered within 30 days of installation.
