A Limitless Pools closing costs $349 plus HST. The visit lowers the water, blows out and plugs every line, adds antifreeze where needed, winterizes the pump, filter and heater, and installs your cover. Close once the water stays below about 18°C, usually mid September to late October.
What a pool closing includes
| Step | What we do | What it prevents |
|---|---|---|
| Water level | Lower water below the skimmer and returns, or to the cover maker's mark | Ice expanding inside the skimmer |
| Lines | Blow out every return, skimmer and main drain line, then plug them | Cracked underground pipes in spring |
| Antifreeze | Pool-grade antifreeze in lines where the design needs it | Freeze damage from water left in low spots |
| Equipment | Drain pump, filter and heater; remove drain plugs; store small parts in the pump basket | Split pump housings and heater cores |
| Chemicals | Balance, shock and add winter chemicals | Algae and staining under the cover |
| Cover | Install and tension the safety or winter cover, set water bags | Wind lifting the cover and debris getting in |
When to close your pool in Ontario
Close your pool once the water stays below about 18°C, which is usually mid September to late October around Kingston and Napanee. Closing warmer than that lets algae grow under the cover. Closing after a hard frost risks water freezing in lines and equipment before they are blown out.
Fall leaf drop matters too. Oaks and maples fill skimmers fast in October, so we check skimmer throats and baskets for debris before plugging. For first-frost history in your area, see Environment and Climate Change Canada climate data.
Safety covers and winter covers
Safety covers anchor into the deck and can hold weight, which matters with children and pets. Winter tarp covers are cheaper but need water bags and more checks. Safety cover installation is a $79 add-on to the closing. Need a new cover or new anchors? See our pool safety covers page, and every add-on is on the pricing page.
Late closings and what waiting costs
Every fall a few owners call after the first hard frost. If water has already frozen in an exposed pump or filter, the repair can cost more than the closing. If you are past mid October, book on our booking page and mention it so we can prioritise your visit. Kingston owners can read our Kingston pool closing page.

Questions about pool closing
How much does it cost to close a pool in Kingston?
A standard Limitless Pools closing costs $349 plus HST, with a set add-on for safety covers, heaters and attached spas. Published regional prices in 2026 ran from $330 to $440 for a full closing.
Can I close my pool myself?
You can, but the risky step is blowing out and plugging the lines properly. Water left in a low spot freezes and cracks pipe that is buried under your deck. A professional closing costs less than one line repair.
Do you close above ground pools?
Yes. Above ground closings include removing and draining hoses, winterizing the pump and filter, adding a skimmer plate or plug, an air pillow and the winter cover.
What happens if the pool freezes before it is closed?
Surface ice on the pool itself is usually fine. The damage happens in lines, the pump and the filter. If frost is forecast before your date, turn the pump on to keep water moving and call us.
Do I need to winterize my heat pump?
Yes. Water left in a heat pump or heater can freeze and crack the heat exchanger, and manufacturer warranties, including Madimack, exclude freeze damage from improper winterization. Heater and heat pump winterizing is a $59 add-on.
